ATA Rail Support Fundraising for Child’s Life Changing Operation

ATA Rail has contributed towards a charity auction which raised £1644 for 5-year-old Toby Cox to have the life altering operation he needs. The raffle was run by ATA’s client Sisk, at their West and Rail Dinner, and helped contribute to the £36,000 cost of an operation to remove the spasticity from Toby’s legs.

ATA gladly donated several prizes to the auction, including a pair of tickets for a tour of Liverpool Football Club which raised £120 on the night, topped only by a signed Ricky Hatton glove which had also been donated. Phil Bailey, Regional Marketing Manager at Sisk, reported the night to be a great success, with many generous donations from their suppliers.

The money raised will go towards an operation to help Toby walk unaided, play and sit comfortably in his day to day life. During his first few days of life, Toby could not breathe unsupported, and regularly needed to be resuscitated. At 5 months old he was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy-spastic diplegia, a condition which is typically treated with a combination of botox, physio and muscle/tendon lengthening surgery.

However, in America, where Toby’s operation will take place, SDR is the procedure of choice which rids a child of spasticity at an early age, allowing normal muscle and bone growth.
