The Business

Our client specialises in the manufacture, sales and service of metal cutting, sawing and routing equipment. Employing over a 1000 people worldwide, the business has been enjoying a steady period of growth within the UK and are expanding their operations.

Their machines range from single stand alone powered saws up to fully automated cutting and profiling lines worth upwards of half a million pounds per line. Due to their expanding customer base, they are now looking to hire an additional two Field Service Engineers to meet customer demand.

The Role

The day to day of the role is a mix of Installations (40%), routine services (20%) and attending breakdowns (40%). The business run a regional service model to ensure not only that customers can be reached quickly, but also their Service Engineers are not spending their lives on the road and to reduce the number of nights away (minimal). All routine services are booked months in advance so all the Service Engineers will have complete visibility.

Hands on the work will be an equal mix of electrical and mechanical work. The Field Service Engineer will be required to be able to fault find with a multimeter through to component level and change any faulty or damaged part.

Installation work can vary greatly in terms of time spent on site, with the smaller machines taking only a day or so, however their larger fully automated lines could take up to 3 weeks and require several Service Engineers to assist.

The Candidate

The client is looking for candidates with the following:

  • Recognised Mechanical or Electrical Qualification.
  • Experience working on, maintaining, and repairing automated manufacturing or production lines.
  • Must be able to fault find with a multimeter and read electrical drawings.
