Our client delivers turnkey engineering projects for the food, beverage, distillery and pharmaceutical markets from conceptual design through procurement of equipment to site installation and commissioning.  The business are recognised as the leader in their field and count many large blue chip multinational companies amongst their customer base.

The company has a rich trading history dating back over 250 years.  They have had an incredible past five years growing from £25 million to £100 million which has seen them aggressively grow the number of projects they deliver each year.  They have also expanded their headcount from 125 to in excess of 300 staff during this period making it a very exciting time to join the business.

As the business has continued to expand they have taken a strategic view of the areas they need to focus on to support their ongoing growth.  The business has identified the Project Management Office as key to the this and as a result are looking to recruit a Head of PMO with immediate effect.

 

The Role

The Head of PMO (Project Management Office) is responsible for defining, rolling out and holding the business accountable to the best practices for how they deliver their projects across the business.  The key areas of focus for Head of PMO will be:

  • Establishing the PMO role and creating a Centre of Excellence in alignment with APM guidelines, quality standards and company requirements.
  • Development, implementation, and governance of the best practices defined for the PMO and to ensure the business has the systems, rules and tools to deliver against these.
  • To monitor and review project progress in line with PMO principles and to hold the team to account when projects are not compliant with requirements.
  • To liaise with the businesses Senior Leadership Team to define PMO strategic priorities, challenges and update on PMO implementation roll out.

  • Coaching, training and mentoring Project Managers to ensure they understand best practices.
  • Identification and recruitment of future potential hires for the PMO
  • To continuously be looking for ways to refine and improve the PMO systems to maximise business efficiency in delivering project.
  • To liaise with functional leads and senior management across the business to ensure buy in for the PMO systems and processes.
  • To be involved in lessons learned from projects the business has delivered to identify ways to improve the best practices within the project delivery systems.

 

The Candidate

The successful candidate for this Head of PMO (Project Management Office) will need:

  • Strong influencing skills
  • To be able to think strategically.
  • To be focused on compliance
  • A supporting degree
  • Experience in a senior role within a PMO or previous experience is a Head or Lead of a PMO
  • To be comfortable and confident challenging standards and holding people to account.
