Job Title – Maintenance Engineer (Mechanical)

Location – Leicester

Salary - £35,820, plus overtime paid at x1.5

Hour of Work – Monday to Friday Days / 7am – 11am alternate Saturdays

The Company

Our client is one of the Midlands largest recycling companies. With sites across both the East and West Midlands, their purpose built sites can handle any form of recyclable waste. Their Leicester site processes 300,000 tonnes of mixed waste a year, with only 2.5% of this going to Landfill.

The site houses washing and bailing systems all feed by a range of manual handling equipment including Forklifts, telehandlers and light yellow goods vehicles. Once the material has been bailed it is then sent to their fully automated sortation site ready for processing.

The Role

The role will require the Maintenance Engineer to maintain the various Conveyors, Shredders and Bailers on site. The vast majority of the work will be mechanical in nature with some electrical faults. The most common faults occurring on bearings, rollers and conveyor belts, as well as faults on the bailers, plus general trips and shorts. All the Manual Handling equipment is maintained by a separate team of Fork Lift Engineers.

As well as the conveyors and bailers, the Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for maintaining the large Waste Bins that are used to transfer waste from their client’s sites. These large steel bins take a lot of punishment from being loaded on and off their collection Lorries, plus are left open to the element at their customers sites. Most of the repair work on the bins will require damaged steelwork to be cut out, a new section fabricated and then welded into place.

The Candidate

To be successful in your application you must have the following skills or attributes:

  • Must have a recognised Mechanical Qualification.
  • Must be able to weld and fabricate.
  • Must be able to strip and fit mechanical components.
  • Must be able to fault find electrically.

Due to the size of the equipment, our client is particularly interested in speaking to people who have been working in any of the following industries: Quarry, Mining, Construction Products, Special Purpose Machinery or Automated Logistics. Candidates who have recently left the Armed Forces with experience maintaining heavy equipment are also of interest.
