The Business

Our client Specialises in fuel delivery systems for both the military and commercial markets, providing service, breakdown, and installation services. The business has been enjoying a steady period of growth within the UK and are looking to expand their operations.

Our client has a range of work which would be carried out from tank inspections, to the calibration of pump dispense systems and servicing of these kinds of equipment. Due to their expanding client base, they are now looking to hire an additional mechanical technician to meet demand. Our client runs a regional service model to ensure not only that engineers can reach sites quickly, but also the engineers are not spending their lives on the road and to reduce the number of nights away (minimal to none). This also provides the engineer with autonomy in being able to organise their own days and a greater degree of responsibility As the engineer will be customer facing constantly.

Due to the expanding nature of the business, there are opportunities for engineers to undertake further qualifications through the business which also reflects in increases in salary.

The Role

The day-to-day role is a mix of carrying out calibrations, inspections and remedial mechanical work at the sites our client operates at. The role is more of a hands-on role and is heavily mechanically based. The mechanical technician will be required to be able to change mechanical components due to faulty or damaged parts.

The field service technician day to day duties is broken down as follows:

  • Every six months the systems are calibrated to ensure standards are maintained.
  • This includes calibration of pumps, gauging systems, and pressure lines.
  • Carrying out PPMs, involving valves, ball valves with pumps and pipework.
  • Remedial work on mechanical parts of the system and replacing worn components.

The installation work can vary greatly in terms of the market in which the installation is taking place, this can range from military to rail to lorry centres. As part of the role there is little in terms of reactive work, as the work is planned ahead of time. As a result of the work being planned the Mechanical Technician will be predominantly working from home on Fridays as there are a number of reports which have to be filled out after being on site.

The Candidate

•             Must have a recognised Mechanical Engineering Qualification with a Minimum Level 3

•             Must have a Full UK Driving License.

•             Be willing to travel.
