Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Pressure Vessels)


Salary: £50,000 - £55,000 (DOE)

+ Car allowance of £4,320 PA

25 Days + Bank holidays

The Company:

Our deliver large turnkey projects into process plant projects across various sectors, including food, beverage, chemical, health & beauty, and pharmaceuticals.

This role will see you working alongside the design team, to support them and an engineer from a product analysis and compliance point of view. You will be joining a team of 3 Engineers in the department that specialise in the design of Pressure Vessels for the business.

As a company they hire 300 engineers across the business, and are experiencing a growth of incoming projects, which has directly led to the teams within growing in size.

Last year the business delivered £80 million of projects, and this year are on target to deliver over £120 million. Our clients parent company turns over 350 million euros from the European arm of the business alone.

The company works with clients worldwide, North America, China and Scotland being some of the key locations they are working in heavily, as such the work to design and manufacture codes such as ASME VIII, PD5500 and PBSR etc.

The Role:

We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, or a non-senior candidate looking for a step up, with a focus on pressure vessels.

This role involves ensuring the integrity of pressure vessels through rigorous calculations and technical file preparation for submission to Notified Bodies.

Your Responsibilities will include:

  • Verify integrity of pressure vessels and manufactured items.
  • Produce calculations and technical files
  • Identify vessels falling under the Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU (PED).
  • Evaluate Hazard analysis, Essential Safety Requirements (ESR), and Particular Material Appraisal (PMA).
  • Benchmark and evaluate drawing work by less experienced team members.
  • Approve and check details on production drawings.
  • Use PV Elite for design calculations, analysis, and evaluation.
  • Carry out hand calculations for supporting parts to vessels.
  • Review updates to pressure vessel standards and ensure compliance.
  • Act as the ASME signatory on orders and drawings.


  • Mechanical Engineering Degree.
  • Previous experience in mechanical design engineering
  • Proficiency in PD5500 or ASME vessel design calculations.
  • Experience with both PV Elite and hand calculations.
