Senior Project Engineer

South East UK (Home Based, Regional Role)

£50,000 – 60,000 + £6k Car Allowance + 10% Pension + 15% bonus (circa £70k + package)

The Company

I’m working with one of the UK’s largest providers of building materials who operate globally with over 75,000 employees and a multi-billion turnover.  The UK business has 4,000 staff and operates across 300 sites in the UK that produce a wide range of building materials from raw material to finished products.

The business has circa 60 sites in the South East of England and are consistently investing in new plant for the sites (large scale materials handling equipment including conveyors, crushing equipment, screening equipment and mixing equipment).  When these projects take place at site along with the mechanical aspects of the project there are typically civil and structural works required too.

As a result of their ongoing investment they are looking for a Senior Project Engineer to run these projects across their south east sites.  They are open to people from a mechanical engineering background who have had some exposure to civil/structural aspects of projects or alternatively strong civil/structural project engineers who have some grounding in mechanical engineering too.

It’s a very secure business that offers long term development opportunities.  Having worked with the business for some time I also know that they are committed to personal development and would support someone towards Chartered status in the role.

The Role

The Senior Project Engineers key focus will be as the mechanical expert as part of the internal business projects.  The company annually reviews where they need to invest in new processing equipment across their sites and as part of this team you will:

  • Support in identifying the equipment required for the project in question.

  • Develop the user requirement specification for the project with the site.
  • Specify the machinery required to sub-contract machinery manufacturers (conveyors, crushing equipment, screening equipment etc)

  • Produce some general layout drawings for the site project taking place.
  • Tender with several suppliers of equipment and review for proposals for technical suitability.
  • Support the sites where required with problems and issues during the installation and commissioning phase of projects.

  • Liaise with civil and structural sub-contractors for any groundworks or building works that will be required on the project
  • Carrying out structural assessments on a periodic basis for the buildings in your region and feeding back to the business on any issues that need addressing.

  • Problem solve for root cause issues with repeat mechanical process equipment failures at your sites.  You will look to identify the root cause problem and what corrective actions the business needs to take to resolve the issue.

The Candidate

To be successful in your application for this Senior Project Engineer role you will need:

  • A HNC or above in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
  • To have experience in technically specifying machinery to be procured on projects.
  • To have been involved in equipment projects from concept to completion.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • To be a strong relationship builder who can forge strong relationships with your regional sites.

The Benefits

  • £50,000 – 60,000
  • £6,000 car allowance
  • 10% Company Pension
  • 15% Incentive Scheme
