Women in Rail’s ‘the First Step to the Next Step’ a Huge Success

ATA Recruitment

Women in Rail inspired attendees to take their own development journey in the ‘First Step to the Next Step’ event last night at the Derby Conference Centre.

RTC Group CEO Andy Pendlebury, who sponsored the event, opened proceedings with a speech about the importance of gender parity and its impact on business results.

“I was immensely proud to be part of ‘The First Step to the Next Step’. Our group has a rich history within the rail sector, and gender parity is a significant challenge facing the industry. The advice given by the experts was exceptional and I am confident that everybody left the room feeling extremely motivated” said Andy.

Visitors were then given the opportunity to choose 3 from the 9 available expert tables, including topics such as how to cope in a male dominated environment and how to stand out from the crowd.

Speakers shared their experiences and expertise, allowing the table to discuss the topic in detail. Voices and laughter echoed throughout the evening as attendees picked up valuable development advice.

“It’s been great for personal development, I’ve enjoyed myself and really learnt a lot.” Said Kat Appleby from the Department for International Trade rail division.

The evening ended with a truly unique presentation from Squash Falconer, who documented her expedition of Everest and how she overcame the odds to realise her dreams. The entire room was fixated on Squash’s inspirational story and can-do attitude, and it was the perfect way to close a great evening.
