HSE Manager – Contractor Role
(Daily Rate: £400–£450 per day)
- Location: Chester (onsite)
- Hours: Monday–Friday, full-time
- Contract Length: 3 months initial contract with extensions
We are looking for an experienced and motivated HSE Manager to join a major UK structural steel project. This is an excellent opportunity to take full ownership of health, safety, and environmental performance on a large-scale industrial construction project.
The Role
You’ll lead all HSE activities on site, ensuring compliance with UK legislation and company policies. You will coordinate with site teams, implement systems and procedures, and drive a strong safety culture across the workforce.
Responsibilities
- Overall responsibility for health, safety, and environmental performance on site
- Develop and implement the HSE management system (policies, procedures, standards)
- Ensure compliance with UK legislation (e.g., Health and Safety at Work Act, CDM Regulations)
- Lead and support accident/incident investigations including RIDDOR reporting
- Liaise with senior management and client-side HSE team
- Coordinate the permit-to-work system
- Assist in preparing and enforcing Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) and Lift Plans
- Conduct site inspections, deliver toolbox talks, and carry out site audits
- Provide day-to-day HSE support to site operatives
About You
- NEBOSH certification
- CSCS card
- Strong knowledge of UK construction legislation
- Experience in construction and manufacturing environments
- Crane operations experience is paramount
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work with the principal contractor
