Mechanical Design Engineer – Derbyshire
Specialist in Structural Fabrication | Flow, Acoustic & Thermal Systems | Contract Role
Location: Derbyshire
Rate: £40 per hour (Umbrella/Ltd – Outside IR35)
Duration: 3-month initial contract (likely to extend)
Start Date: Immediate

Our client is seeking an all-rounder—an experienced professional who can take a lead role in the full design process from concept to delivery. This is an opportunity to work on exciting, high-value projects in a dynamic engineering environment.
What Our Client is Looking For:
A Mechanical Design Engineer who brings:
✅ A hands-on background in fabrication and structural engineering
✅ Proficiency in engineering calculations – using Mathcad, Excel, and hand calculations
✅ Expertise in acoustics, airflow, and thermal systems
✅ Experience with both large and small companies, showcasing adaptability
✅ Strong ability in structural stress calculations and understanding of mechanical systems specifications
Key Responsibilities:

Interpret complex client specifications and develop concept mechanical designs

Perform and validate calculations for structural loadings, ducting, airflow, and offshore environmental forces (pitch, roll, heave)

Lead engineering analysis for cost and weight reduction, and improve design for manufacture

Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, supporting and reviewing engineering work

Engage in and lead technical design reviews
✅ Essential Experience:
-
Solid Mechanical Engineering background with a proven track record in heavy/large-scale structural fabrication

Proficient in Ansys, Mathcad, and hand calculations
-
Strong grasp of acoustic, thermal, and airflow engineering principles
-
Client-focused with excellent technical judgement and team collaboration skills
