Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer

Shift: Monday to Friday, Days Only
Salary: £50,000 – £60,000 DOE

A specialist manufacturer of high-speed packaging systems supplying the FMCG sector. The company continues to grow through innovation and strong customer partnerships. As part of their technical team, you’ll be involved in building, commissioning, and supporting some of the most advanced machinery in the sector.
The Role – Machinery Build, Servicing & Technical Support
This is a varied, hands-on engineering role split between workshop-based machinery build and field service engineering:
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- 70% workshop-based: assembling, wiring, and commissioning packaging machines
- 30% field-based: site visits for installation, breakdown response, and service support
- Modify and adjust PLC programs (Ladder Logic / Motion Control) to suit customer requirements or kit variations
- Carry out electrical wiring, control panel building, and system modifications
- Diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical, and software faults in PLC-controlled, servo-driven systems
- Support testing protocols, commissioning processes, and service documentation
- Provide both remote and on-site technical support to customers post-installation
Technical Focus
- Approx. 75% hands-on electrical work: wiring, panel building, modifying control systems
- Approx. 25% PLC and motion control programming: editing existing logic to adapt for machine configuration changes
- Occasional mechanical work — mainly in support of the electrical focus
- Safe electrical working practices and familiarity with industrial safety protocols are essential
What We’re Looking For
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical or Electro-Mechanical Engineering
- Experience in a similar machinery build or service role
- Confident working with PLC logic (Ladder Logic), servo systems, and control architecture
- Strong hands-on electrical skills — wiring, reading schematics, fault-finding
- Willingness to travel (UK-wide) for customer support, including some overnight stays
- Team-oriented but able to work independently and take ownership of tasks
