Technical Buyer (Engineering Sector)
Nottinghamshire

Salary: Up to £45,000 (DOE) + Bonus
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, flexible start/finish times with early finish on Friday

With a strong pipeline of new projects and exciting growth plans, the business is investing in its people and actively promoting from within. To support this expansion, they’re now seeking an Technical Buyer to strengthen their team and play a key role in driving projects forward.

The Role

As the Technical Buyer, you’ll take ownership of all procurement activity across the engineering and manufacturing functions. Working closely with Project Managers, Design Engineers, and Production, you’ll ensure every project has the materials, components, and services needed on time, on budget, and to the highest quality standards.

You’ll have real influence in this position, managing relationships with suppliers worldwide and supporting multiple live projects simultaneously. The Technical Buyer will play a central role in linking technical understanding with commercial decision-making, ensuring all engineering requirements are fully me

Key Responsibilities:

  • Source a variety of materials, components, equipment, and services for bespoke engineered machinery
  • Interpret technical drawings and BOMs to ensure accurate purchasing
  • Negotiate pricing, lead times, and terms with UK and international suppliers
  • Raise purchase orders and maintain accurate procurement records within SAP Business One
  • Coordinate import logistics and documentation for overseas shipments
  • Support up to 10 concurrent projects, managing a total annual spend of up to £3 million
  • Track supplier performance and address delivery or quality issues proactively
  • Identify and deliver cost-saving and continuous improvement opportunities across the supply chain

The Candidate

We’re looking for a highly organised, confident, and commercially minded professional who thrives on taking ownership. You’ll be the go-to procurement specialist for your projects empowered to make decisions, build supplier partnerships, and help keep complex engineering programmes running smoothly. The ideal Technical Buyer will have a passion for engineering detail and the ability to translate technical requirements into effective purchasing solutions.

Experience & Skills:

  • Proven background in procurement or buying within an engineering or manufacturing environment
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
  • Strong negotiation and communication abilities
  • Proficient with MRP/ERP systems (SAP Business One experience ideal)
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel
  • Minimum Level 3 Engineering qualification (ONC or equivalent)
  • Experience managing international logistics, imports, or exports is advantageous
