An exciting opportunity has arisen for a £multi-million Facilities Management and M&E business delivering Facilities Management and M&E Contracts throughout the UK. With its history dating back over 50 years, this business has solid foundations and continues to go from strength to strength having increased its annual sales by a staggering £8m over the last 12 months. Moving forwards, the group has an aggressive growth plan to increase sales by £25m over the next four years from a mixture of organic sales and further acquisitions.


Having recruited for the group for several years, I can truly say they are a great investor in their people, they provide excellent training and opportunities for progressions. As a result of recent growth and success, they are now looking to recruit an experienced Business Development Manager from a Facilities Management or M&E Contracts background to join the team and to play an instrumental part in the business achieving its growth targets. Success in this role will lead to a Sales Director or Commercial Directors role in the next three to five years.

The role of the Business Development Manager will be as follows:


  • Reporting to the Facilities Services Director, you will play an integral part in the growth of the Facilities Management division
  • Very much a new business and customer-facing role, you will be responsible for covering the UK and selling Facilities Management and M&E service contracts
  • Selling to a variety of sectors such as engineering, manufacturing, industrial, healthcare, government, retail and many more, you will be managing contracts ranging in values from £500,000 to £5m each
  • Around 75% of your time will be generating new business via existing customers, brand new customers as well as working with your group companies to maximise sales and 25% of your time will be spent managing existing contracts and customers
  • You will be selling facilities management and M&E service contracts to customers across a wide spectrum such as engineering, manufacturing, industrial, MOD, healthcare, commercial, retail, government, financial services or anywhere where the customer requires M&E and Facilities Management service support
  • You will be responsible for the entire sales process from lead generation, prequalification, meeting the client face to face to understand their business needs, conduct commercial & technical presentations and fact find around the client's requirements
  • From there, you will coordinate and manage all RFQ, RFT, RFI and the tender process whilst working closely with your estimating team to formulate the cost of the contract
  • Building long-term relationships with key decision-makers are vital as this is a new business development role that requires you to demonstrate hunter instincts with excellent relationship skills
  • Price & contract negotiation and closing sales contracts
  • Responsible for all marketing initiatives and attending tradeshows and exhibitions


To be successful for the Business Development Managers role you will need:


  • A proven track record in selling Facilities Management, M&E, Maintenance, Service or MRO service contracts
  • A proven track record in new business Facilities Management sales and passion for business growth
  • Centrally located in England, close to a motorway network
  • Confident communicator with excellent written/verbal communication skills and outstanding negotiation expertise
  • A passion for new business is also key
