The Business

Our client specialises in automated and manual weighing systems and contaminate detection systems for the Food Manufacturing Industry. Their products consist of stand alone weigh scales, x-ray machines, metal detectors, and automated weigh, scan and label systems that sit at the end of their customer’s lines.

Founded in 1983, the business’ operations span worldwide, operating across Europe, Asia, the Americas, Australasia, and parts of Africa. Thanks to the industry sector they operate in, the business have been completely unaffected by Covid and have actually continued to grow and expand over the past 18 months. As part of this growth, they now require additional coverage within their Field Service Team for the North East of England.

The Role

The Field Service Engineer will be attending Customer’s sites across the North East of England for breakdowns, routine service and calibrations, and installation work. One average the Engineers are attending one customer per day, with breakdowns being booked into the Engineer’s diary the day before. The business operate a Regional Service Model so visits outside the North East of England will be rare, as will the need to stay away overnight.

The vast majority of the hands on work is Electrical in nature, with mechanical work consisting of basic hand tool work on the small conveyor lines the feed the product through. Electrically the Field Service Engineer will be required to fault find with a multimeter on 12/24v DC control systems, plus single and 3 phase. Once faults are identified the faulty component will need to be changed and the machine recalibrated.

Routine Service work consists of the changing of consumable parts and calibration and testing of machines via use of a laptop. The business have their own unique control software on which the Field Service Engineer will receive full training on during their induction.

The Candidate

To be successful in your application you will need the following:

  • A recognised Electrical Qualification (BTec or higher)
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and fault find with a multimeter
  • A full UK Driving Licence

The business have an excellent training and development program through which all new Engineers go through, as such they are open to candidates from a wide variety of industries. The business are also keen to meet Electrical Engineers who have recently left the armed forces and looking for a career in Engineering. Candidates with a background in automated production equipment, especially food, are also of particular interest.
