£60,000 – 70,000 + £5,400 Car Allowance

 

The Company

My client is a process engineering specialist who deliver turnkey engineering projects including the manufacturing and assembly of tanks, vessels and other process equipment for clients in the food, beverage, pharmaceutical and materials handling amongst other industries.  The company have a trading history that dates back over 200 years and are widely recognised as the leading company in their field. 

Across all engineering and manufacturing disciplines the company employs nearly 200 staff in all  across two sites based in Staffordshire and Scotland.  In terms of manufacturing they employ over 50 skilled fabricator/welders across both operations which is set to expand as the business grows.

The company are on an ambitious mission to grow from their current £50 million turnover to £100 million in the next three years.  As part of this they will see their manufacturing business grow from £6 million to £10 million as they organically grow and expand and invest in new sectors to manufacture for.  As part of this growth they are now looking for a Head of Manufacturing to head up manufacturing across both sites with immediate effect.

 

The Role

As the Head of Manufacturing you will have P&L Responsibility for the manufacturing activity the company carries out.  The business fabricates and assembles a wide range of process plant equipment including tanks, vessels, stills and pipework systems.

You will be reporting directly to the Engineering Director in the business and will be responsible for a division of the business that employs 80 staff.  You will have the Production Managers and Production Supervisors for each site within the business reporting to you directly.  The role will given you a fantastic opportunity to create processes, culture, performance metrics and vision that you can really make your own.

The key focuses for the role will be:

  • Defining the processes and KPI measures for what excellence looks like so they can measure performance more effectively on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.
  • To define the roles and responsibilities for the members of the team so their efforts are focussed in the right direction.
  • To ensure manufacturing and design for manufacturing is planned more effectively based around project deadlines so manufacturing schedules run effectively.  The end result hear should be less resources required for projects and manufacturing delivered to quicker time scales
  • Leading daily production meetings with the department heads to ensure a clear plan is in place to deliver against schedule.
  • Liaising with the shop floor team to understand ideas the business can implement to make their production and manufacturing more effective.
  • Creating visualisation on the shop floor for performance to create an environment where the team is aware of its performance and it’s goals.
  • Coaching and mentoring of the leadership team to raise capability and performance.
  • Being a key internal stakeholder for project related updates for manufacturing within the business, ensuring communication is in place for project updates and potential delays
  • Creating the strategic plan for production to ensure the business is equipped to deliver from a labour, tooling and equipment point of view as the businesses production expands organically and into new markets.
  • Being a key member of the manufacturing transformation programme and quality improvement programme the business is currently running.
  • Ensuring the business is aware and up to date with new H&S legislation related to manufacturing.

 

The Candidate

To be successful in your application for this Head of Manufacturing role you will need:

  • Demonstrable experience leading production or manufacturing environments at a senior level.
  • Experience in leading, managing and coaching supervisory and management level individuals within a business.
  • To be able to demonstrate how you have identified, implemented and made changes that have resulted in tangible improvements.
  • To be confident challenging the status quo.
  • A strong influencer and rapport builder who can lead with confidence
  • To be a strong planner and organiser.
  • To be a forward thinker who can conceptualise long term manufacturing needs as well as day to day performance requirements.
  • To be driven to understand the manufacturing business and individuals from shop floor through to management level.

  • To be happy happy to the Scotland site, the business expects you will be at the Scotland site for circa 1-2 days every other week.
