The Company

Our client has a rich trading history supplying bespoke machinery solutions for customers in the automotive, nuclear and FMCG markets. They turnover £30 million, employ 150 staff and have decades of experience in providing bespoke equipment for their customers. 

The company have a growth plan in place, a key part of which is to grow their presence in the to recruit a Lead Buyer to work in the supply chain for their projects that focus on high tech bespoke welding machines.  You will be responsible for working with the current supply chain the business has in place taking the lead in procurement on projects.  You will also be looking for strategic opportunities to review and improve the current supply chain in place.

 

The Role

The Lead Buyer will take a leading role in the bespoke welding systems projects that the company run.  Our client sells circa 3 – 10 million of these machines annually with systems ranging from 15 tonnes to 400 tonnes in weight.  You will be procuring large bespoke fabricated and machined parts such as chuck assemblies, clamp assemblies, machine bases and large head assemblies as well as hydraulic power units and control units for machinery projects that the company are delivering. 

Your role will involve:

  • Supporting sales with proposed costs for packaged solutions at point of enquiry. Putting out technical specifications to suppliers to generate prices to ensure the information is available when RFQ’s require responding to.
  • Tendering and procurement of equipment to deliver projects.
  • Assessing supplier capability (technically and demand) to ensure they can support the project and identify potential issues with lead times on items.
  • Managing and expediting the supplier during projects – passing this information into the Project Manager.
  • Supplier Development – looking for opportunities to improve supplier performance based around projects or long term performance.
  • Negotiation with suppliers on prices for equipment.

 

The Candidate

To be successful in your application for this Lead Buyer role you will need:

  • To have had experience in buying bespoke large scale fabricated and machined components.
  • To have procured precision machined components.
  • To be a strong negotiator
  • Strong influencing skills
  • To be able to interpret technical drawings.
