Press department

Home to the largest machinery on site, Toyotas press department utilises over 2500 tonnes of pressure to produce the inner panels, roofs, hood outer and side panels for the Toyota Corolla.

How does it work?

Somewhere in Europe, a customer purchases their brand-new car, this prompts Toyotas Just in time (JIT) manufacturing system to kick in and the smart technology begins to order the parts and materials used to produce the fantastic Corolla.  Having made its way to the factory, each car starts its journey in the press shop as a roll of steel. The steel goes through a 4-step process to press, cut, drill, and bend the plates, developing the innovative shape of the vehicle.

What does a day to day of a maintenance technician within the press department look like?

As a maintenance technician you will be responsible for you will be responsible for maintaining a variety of PLC controlled equipment production machinery, which can include Komatsu presses, robotics, blanking lines, hydraulic systems.

Further responsibilities will include:

-        Reacting to breakdowns

-        Mechanical strip and rebuild.

-        Swapping components like for like.

-        Welding, fabrication, and machining.

What do the press department look for?

As with all TMUKs departments, a mind set for Continuous improvement (Kaizen) and adopting a fix right first-time culture is essential. Toyota like their maintenance technicians to be comfortable working with a fast-paced environment and enjoy the buzz of a busy factory.

-        Strong mechanical skill and knowledge.

-        Experience with fluid power systems (Desirable)

-        Understanding of electrical safe practices

-        Electrical competency.

-        Happy to work across a three-shift pattern, including night shift.
