This is an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a forward-thinking team delivering innovative projects across multiple sectors including automotive, aerospace, medical, and energy. Their solutions include robotic welding cells, laser marking systems, leak testing equipment, and assembly-test rigs. With a strong reputation for innovation and quality, they deliver projects from concept design through to installation and commissioning.

About the Role

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing and developing special-purpose machinery and automated systems. You’ll work on projects such as robotic welding cells, assembly fixtures, leak testing rigs, and advanced automation equipment. This position offers the chance to lead design projects from concept through to commissioning, ensuring robust and cost-effective solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design & Development
    • Produce detailed 3D CAD models and 2D drawings using SolidWorks or similar software.
    • Develop mechanical concepts for bespoke automation systems and special-purpose machinery.
    • Ensure compliance with safety standards and customer specifications.
    • Prepare and present designs at internal and client design reviews.
    • Maintain accurate documentation, BOMs, and adhere to departmental processes.
    • Work closely with electrical, controls, and software engineers for system integration.
    • Liaise with suppliers for component selection and ensure quality and cost targets are met.
    • Identify opportunities for cost reduction and design optimization.
    • Stay updated with the latest manufacturing techniques and automation trends.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer in automation or special-purpose machinery.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical principles, manufacturing processes, and industry standards.
  • Proficiency in CAD software.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities.
