Project Controls Engineer 
Rate:  £40.00 - £45.00ph
Location: Leicester (with overseas travel on customer sites) 
Hours: 40 hours per week 
Contract Length: Initial 3 months (with potential extension) 

Our client 

We're partnering with a leading systems integration specialist within the power generation and energy sector, a business at the forefront of control system upgrades and modernisation for rotating plant equipment such as gas turbines, steam turbines, diesel generators, and compressors. 

Due to several new project wins, we're seeking experienced Project Commissioning Engineer/Controls Project Engineers to support the delivery of complex control system installations and upgrades for major energy clients across the UK and overseas. 

The contractor 

As a Engineer, you'll be involved in every stage of the project lifecycle, from design and testing through to installation and commissioning on-site. We're looking for someone who thrives in a varied, project-driven environment. You'll be joining a small but expert team working closely with end users in power generation, oil & gas, and waste-to-energy sectors 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Programming and commissioning PLC-based control systems (primarily Siemens and Allen Bradley) 

  • Producing control system design specifications and test documentation 

  • Conducting FATs / SATs and field testing 

  • Installing and commissioning control panels, fuel systems, and protection systems 

  • Supporting mechanical assembly of skids, pipework, valves, and manifolds 

  • Assisting with instrumentation and valve testing 

  • Occasional re-writing or development of test procedures and reports 

While primarily control-focused, the role involves a hands-on, site-based element, ideal for engineers who enjoy both programming and fieldwork. 

Required Skills & Experience 

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in hands-on control systems engineering 

  • PLC programming experience (Siemens / Allen Bradley) 

  • Background in installation and commissioning within Power Gen, Oil & Gas, or Chemical sectors
