Controls Service Engineer – North UK (with Possible Nationwide Travel)
Salary: £50,000–£55,000 + overtime

About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Controls Service Engineer to join our growing service support team. This position is primarily home-based and focused on remote technical support, with occasional travel across the UK for on-site fault resolution. A significant portion of the role involves providing reactive assistance for control system issues, supported by a rotating out-of-hours call schedule.
This is a service-only position—ideal for an engineer who enjoys troubleshooting, problem-solving, and supporting customers with complex automation challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical assistance for control system faults and breakdowns via phone, email, and remote access tools.
- Diagnose and resolve issues on Siemens PLCs (TIA Portal), HMIs, and associated automation equipment, including SEW hardware.
- Attend customer locations for corrective maintenance when problems cannot be resolved remotely.
- Produce clear and detailed service reports covering work undertaken, observations, and recommendations.
- Maintain high standards of safety and compliance during all site visits.
- Offer feedback to internal engineering teams to support continuous improvement of control systems and service processes.
Working Pattern
Standard Working Week Remotely Based
- 08:00 – 17:00, Monday – Friday
- Planned service visits and PPM activities
- Training on new or ongoing projects
- Engineer development and skills training
Out-of-Hours Call Out (fortnightly)
- Nights: 18:00 – 06:00 (WFH, remote support, site visits only if remote fix is not possible)
- Days: 06:00 – 18:00 (WFH, remote support, site visits as required)
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong proficiency with Siemens TIA Portal, including S7 PLCs and HMI systems.
- Solid background in industrial electrical systems, including panel wiring and fault finding.
- Experience delivering remote technical support and on-site service within industrial or manufacturing environments.
- Confident in diagnosing, analysing, and resolving automation issues independently.
- Excellent communication skills and a proactive, customer-focused approach.
