The Company

Our client is specialises in the manufacturing of products for the construction market. With over 20 manufacturing sites across the UK, this multi-million pound company have been investing heavily across both their production and quarry sites to help meet an ever increasing market demand for construction materials.

Their Desford site produces both extruded Red Bricks as well as Buff Bricks. Currently the site produces 90 million bricks per year, however the site is currently having the production plant upgraded to be able to take total production up to 100 million. This multimillion pound investment is to help meet the ever increasing demand for both the Red and Buff Bricks.

To help meet market demand, the Business have also invested a large sum of money in a fully autonomous computerised PPM system as part of their nationwide LEAN manufacturing and Continuous Improvement drive. The hope is the extra production capacity in the plant and an increased line availability will help them meet the current orders. The new system is due to come online in the next few months following final testing.

The Role

The Electrical Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for three key areas; Reactive Maintenance, Planned Preventative Maintenance and Installation Project work. With production running 24/7, the day to day maintenance is very reactive in nature until the new PPM system is up and running.

The duties of the Electrical Maintenance Engineer will be 95% electrical in nature against 5% mechanical as the site has separate Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. Electrical tasks include fault finding using a multimeter against electrical drawings, fault finding using a multimeter on PLCs (Siemens S5 & S7), fault finding, rectification and installation of panels, repairing AC and DC motors (Brake, Star Delta and Soft Start), changing sensors, inverters, relays and contactors.

As much as the plant is automated and PLC fault finding is done with a laptop, however candidates do not need to be able to write or alter code.
